Project Nomad
Nomad, owned by Cambridgeshire County Council is at the centre of mobile and flexible working in local government. Formerly a National Project set up by the then Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, its objective is to support the growing number of local authorities and public sector organisations in delivering mobile working solutions and help them manage the transformation which inevitably comes with change. Nomad has a wealth of knowledge available, and has developed tools, guidance materials, case studies and best practice documentation. Nomad serves as an advisory group to any organisation that seeks to implement mobile and flexible working.
Project Nomad is the National Project supported by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and owned by Cambridgeshire County Council. Its objective is to create, under one umbrella, a comprehensive set of deliverables to enable any local authority wanting to establish a mobile working operation to do so with ease and confidence.
Project Nomad's website states...
"The deployment of mobile technology as a way of enabling the local authority to make best use of front line staff is taking off. The technologies, available right now, have matured over the last few years, and can provide robust, manageable and cost effective solutions. Imaginative use of mobile technology not only allows key professionals to spend more time from the office doing the real job, but can open up new ways for individual staff members to work across several traditional service boundaries.
The capabilities of mobile technology also enable staff to work effectively as a team, even though they may rarely be at the same place at the same time. Equipment costs have fallen, as have connectivity costs – combine this with the potential for less unproductive time, more transactions per day, and a contribution to the green agenda, by saving on travel, and it is easy to see why so many local authorities are now seriously working at making mobile computing a winner.
