Major advances in communication and information technologies has made it possible to deliver improved services to local authorities while supporting ongoing local community needs. At a time where local authorities strive to achieve the ODPM Priority Services and Transformation Outcomes, both citizen expectation and funding issues need to be reconciled.

To support the area of eGovernment, Capita Software Services has developed Capita Direct, a flexible suite of applications including CRM, authentication and self-service modules for key areas within an authority.

By using proven modules that are already tried, tested and live, Capita Direct is reducing local government risk of using new technologies to deliver services in new ways to their communities. The modules are designed to work in isolation or as part of a total operation and are reinforced by Capita’s experience of legacy application conversion.

Capita Direct can also be used to develop bespoke web based applications in partnership with an individual organisation.

The Future

Capita Direct provides a solid foundation on which to build a local authority’s e-Government services. However, Capita is always conscious of the advance of technology, and we ensure that the product suite evolves to offer councils all the benefits that new technologies might bring. Capita Direct is a robust and future-proofed solution.

Capita Software Services plays an active role in the ODPM National Programme, especially in the National Project roundtables for CRM, DIP/Workflow, Knowledge Management and Mobile Working, and is in constant liaison with bodies such as the IDeA, Office of the e-Envoy and Intellect in order to monitor and contribute towards all best practice developments in these areas.

Engagement with the Local e-Government Standards Body ensures that we are consistently working towards technical and service standards in our products and methods that are at the forefront of thinking across the field of e-Government. Compliance with e-Gov Metadata standards guarantees maximum interoperability between our products and those of third party suppliers. Our approach is to actively contribute to and drive the standardisation process to ensure fast and efficient execution of the standards whilst at the same time ensuring that our entire product suite meets and exceeds the demands set by accepted standards.
