Tremendous teamwork, inspiring individual effort and long-term dedication were all celebrated in style at Luton Borough Council’s annual Excellence Awards on Thursday 12 May.
Over 300 employees from a wide range of services, such as pest control, social work, building and community services attended the gala event at Venue 360 which was funded entirely by a range of external sponsors.
Awards were made in 12 categories recognising outstanding commitment to serving the people of Luton.
Manager of the Year, sponsored by Capita was awarded to Elaine Hughes, team manager, Children and Families social care, for leading a team that has experienced such positive changes putting children, young people and their families at the heart of everything they do.

Trevor told the audience: “I think it is fitting to quote from Elaine’s nomination:
“Elaine is highly respected and appreciated. Her ‘open door’ policy means social workers feel comfortable seeking advice and motivation. She shows genuine interest in the wellbeing of her team, expressing gratitude when everyone pulls together to assist during emergencies and encouraging good team spirit.”
“Comments such as those convinced the judges that Elaine was a worthy winner of Manager of the Year.”
