Jon Peart, payments director of Capita's software services business, said: "Capita and Barclays already enjoy a strong relationship and this partnership is a natural extension of that. We know that half of all UK adults now have a smartphone2 and almost half of UK households are set to own tablets by the end of 20143. It is important that we provide our clients with payment solutions that allow their customers to make payments in the way they want to. Adding Pingit to our range of mobile payment solutions was an obvious choice for us and we look forward to rolling out additional functionality later this year."
Milon Veasey, head of mobile solutions specialists at Barclays, added: "Capita has always been at the forefront of innovation in payments, by recognising that both its clients and their customers value choice when it comes to payment options. It has developed secure and easy to use mobile payment solutions, and by adding Pingit to its offering, is able to provide an additional way for consumers to make payments securely."
Barclays Pingit launched in February 2012 and has been downloaded 2.5m times, with over £350m of payments being processed through the platform. Users do not have to bank with Barclays and it is free to download and use the app.
