Professional and Career Development Loans goes live with Capita’s Advantage Digital solution

26 August 2016

Professional and Career Development Loans (PCDL), one of the Government’s Student Support Schemes, has gone live with Capita’s Advantage Digital solution.

Advantage Digital is a complete digital service to improve the application process for a range of Government student support schemes. The Skills Funding Agency’s PCDL is the third scheme to go live with Advantage Digital, following the 16-19 Vulnerable Bursary Fund and Care to Learn schemes in 2015.

A PCDL is a bank loan for which the Skills Funding Agency pays the interest while students are in learning. The loan can be taken out for an amount between £300 and £10,000 to fund a wide range of courses and expenses lasting up to two years. There are approx. 13,000 enquiries and 9,000 applications annually for PCDL loans.

Advantage Digital delivers a self-service, intuitive and easy-to-use digital application process, which eliminates paper applications for PCDL and significantly reduces human interaction, unnecessary re-work and lead time for the student. The solution improves user experience and offers online assistance via webchat at all stages of the process.

Previously, participating banks received a high volume of paper-based applications that were incomplete, inaccurate or required further validation. With the new Advantage Digital online form, applicants’ eligibility is assessed and details validated, and completed forms are sent directly to the bank being applied to for processing.

A spokesperson for the Skills Funding Agency said:

“The replacement of paper forms with this streamlined, easy-to-use and secure solution will benefit both the student and the bank providing PCDL loans. Advantage Digital will reduce the return of incomplete forms or those submitted with errors, increasing the likelihood of them being successfully processed and people gaining access to the education and training they need.”

As part of this project a second digital form has also been created which allows potential students to request the registration of their University or College courses if they are not currently listed for PCDL.
