  • Ian Gates, divisional director

    details

    Ian Gates is the director of Capita Software Services (CSS) and is responsible for the development, implementation and support of business critical software solutions into local government, social housing and further and higher education.
     
    Ian has been working both in and for the public sector for over 25 years, with his career starting as a housing benefits assessor. This has been followed by many years in IT supporting and developing revenues, benefits and housing systems. Immediately prior to joining Capita plc, he was the customer services manager for one of the UK’s leading suppliers of local government back office systems.
     
    Ian joined Capita plc in 1993 through an acquisition of the software house that has grown to become the Capita's Software Services we know today. During his time in Capita Ian has performed a number of roles including project managing major ERP systems for clients. This involved transitioning staff and products into the company from acquisitions and outsourced contracts, as well as client management of key customers.
     
    In 2003, Ian returned to his roots with the challenge of delivering software into the ever changing public sector market.
  • Nick Breeds, technical director

    details

    Nick joined Capita's Software Services in 2006, originally as the chief architect, progressing onto head of technical services and then onto technical director. He is responsible for all internal infrastructure, architecture and security. As well as providing internal technical services across CSS, he also offers remote technical support and hosting services to a large number of customers. 
     
    Nick has over 20 years’ IT experience across financial services, the public sector, retail and embedded/engineering.  Prior to CSS, Nick was the global life architect at a major financial services company, focussing on application architectures and technology strategy.
     
    Nick holds a BSc (Hons.) in Computer Science from the University of Essex and is a qualified IT architect assessed against TOGAF.
  • Paul Millard, operations director

    details

    Paul Millard is operations director at CSS and responsible for Capita's Revenues and Benefits software and Capita's TotalMobile. He has management responsibility for the following software functions; new sales, account management, product development, project management, business consultancy, helpdesk, conversions and interfaces.
     
    Paul joined the company in 1993 as a member of the Helpdesk team. He has progressed via business consultancy, product management and professional services management.
     
    Paul previously worked for West Wiltshire District Council and was a key member of the Benefits Team having responsibilities for; system reconciliation, subsidy submissions, staff training, effective system usage and end-of-year completion.
     
    During his career with Capita plc he has managed many key customer engagements. These have included new implementations, User Group discussions and changes to unit working practices. Paul has a wealth of management experience and in his current role; he has successfully increased the number of customers using the Capita's Revenues and Benefits software system from 72 to 140 throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
     
    Paul is a qualified member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).
  • Roger Birkinshaw, housing director

    details

    Roger Birkinshaw joined CSS in 1996, originally starting on the Housing Helpdesk, he is currently housing director. He is responsible for all operations of the Housing unit, revenue generation, the promotion of products as well as the strategic development and delivery of the Capita's Housing portfolio.
     
    Roger has a wealth of experience in the housing sector, having previously worked for North Housing. Throughout his career, Roger has supported many housing implementations with numerous operational roles. He also has a strong technical background and is an expert in operating systems and programming, creating many of Capita's technical guides and training courses. Prior to Capita plc, he worked for Clerical Medical in IT support.
     
    Roger holds a BSc (Hons.) in Computer Information Systems from the University of Liverpool.
  • Chris Cooper, operations director

    details

    Chris joined Capita’s Technical Services division in 1991, holding various senior management positions until 1997. At this time Capita plc was developing the Software Services division and he moved over to run Capita’s Income Management unit, with a prime focus on the provision of software and services to the local government sector.
     
    In 2000, Chris took up the opportunity to run the newly formed Further and Higher Education division within Capita plc. Two years later Chris became director of Capita FHE to oversee the development of the UNIT-e solution. Wishing to broaden his educational sector knowledge, Chris accepted a role in Capita Children Services to run the Services operation in 2004.
     
    2007 saw Chris return as the director to Capita FHE aiming to continue understanding the needs of the further and higher education sector and developing the rapidly expanding business and in late 2008 he took on the additional position of operations director for Capita Payment Management.
     
    Chris is also one of two operations directors for Capita Software Services.
  • Matthew Stammers, marketing director

    details

    Matthew Stammers is the marketing director for Capita's Software Services (CSS), joining the division of Capita plc in July 2008 from a previous marketing director role at CORGI, the gas safety body. He has over 15 years’ experience in marketing and general business management across a number of different industry sectors including water utilities, local government, health and gas safety.

    Matt is responsible for helping CSS to engage more effectively with its customers, understand their requirements and provide solutions that meet their needs in these challenging commercial times.

    Matthew holds an MBA from Henley Management College and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Direct Marketing.
